The Voice's 10 Craziest Bits: Adam Levine Calls Out Miley Cyrus' 'Miley-Ass Moment' During the Battles
It was the start of another intense week of battles on The Voice's Monday October 17, episode. Blake Shelton had his finger firmly on the "steal" button, Miley Cyrus got intimidated by Team Alicia Keys, and Bette Midler called out a wardrobe malfunction. Plus, the "Wrecking Ball" singer revealed her childhood nickname. It was a busy night!
1. Blake gets possessive.
As the show opened, Blake showed his competitive streak again! "My favorite part of these battles is being able to use the steal button,” he said. “If Alicia swoops in and pushes her button on another person I’m trying to steal, I’m going to lose my mind.”
Sadly for him, Alicia wasn’t listening. At the end of the show, she stole Soraya, beating him again! “You do hate me, don’t you?” he asked Alicia.
2. Hats off.
For Team Adam Levine’s first battle, Johnny Rez and Nolan Neal sang Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer.” But poor ol' Blake was finding it really hard to focus on the music. He said to Johnny, “One of life’s great mysteries is how the hell does that hat stay on your head anyway?”
Adam chose Nolan (despite Johnny’s superhuman hat-retention skills).
3. Miley’s confession.
Miley had a surprise for Us during Darby Walker and Karlee Metzler’s rehearsal. When Darby asked why their coach why she had thought of putting them together, Miley sheepishly said, “When I was mentoring here before, I would never admit this to him, but I learned something from Adam!”
Lucky he wasn’t there to hear that — huh, Miley?
4. Adam’s “Miley-ass” moment.
When Adam heard Darby and Karlee’s battle performance of “Brand New Key,” by Melanie, he announced, “That was, like, the Miley-est thing ever. … This was a Miley-ass moment!” But then maybe Adam was having a weird day because when Blake reminisced about his mom singing that song, Adam responded with, “Your mom is awesome.” Uh, OK, Adam. Blake was a little freaked out, telling Adam, “You said that in a weird way.”
5. Miley’s clown suit.
We thought Miley totally rocked that orange jumpsuit with oversized gold accessories. Go, Miley! But there she was, tugging at her collar, saying, “I’m sweating in my clown suit!” Well, hey, aren’t crazy clowns a thing right now? No worries — you’re right on trend.
6. Blaine’s wardrobe malfunction.
When Blaine Long and Josh Gallagher rehearsed their battle song, “Stranger in My House,” adviser Bette Midler stepped in with some choice criticism. “You cannot come on stage with those baggy, saggy pants,” she told Blaine. Then she asked, “Oh, my God — was I too mean?” She wasn’t worried for long, though. As soon as she was alone, she said, “Blaine looked like an unmade bed, so I was just very distressed.”
Blaine himself wasn’t budging on his loose-fitting attire. He said, “Through this process, I’ve learned that I don’t like skinny jeans.”
7. Charlie Puth’s college reunion.
When Charlie Puth spotted Kylie Rothfield on Team Alicia, he was stunned! Turns out the pair had been at college together. Charlie said, "It brought me back to first year Berklee, and she was one of the really nice people who was like, 'Hey, come sing with us!'" So cute!
8. Blake casts a Western movie?
When John Halverson and Kyle Rothfield sang “House of the Rising Sun,” Blake said, “Josh, you have to promise me you’ll be in a Western. The looks on your face are so good for a gunfight.” Once again, Blake, try to focus on the task at hand. However, Adam was just as bad, admitting Josh also intimidated him. “I was a little bit scared,” the Maroon 5 frontman said. Miley and Alicia looked completely disinterested in the whole Western bit.
9. Miley gets the shakes.
Poor Miley! She admitted she’s been a bit scared of how good Team Alicia is. But luckily for her wobbly nerves, Miley managed to snag Halverson away from Alicia! After she hit the "steal" button, Miley said, “I couldn’t believe you were available. I’m shaking!” When did the tough Miley we know and love become such a softie? Hmm, could it be down to a certain nice-guy influence in her life? (Yes, we're looking at you, Liam Hemsworth.)
10. Miley’s a Sissy?
When Miley heard Hoobastank’s “The Reason” sung by Christian Fermin and Gabe Broussard, she couldn’t resist telling a story from childhood: “My dad made me buy an iPod just so he could listen to this song,” she said. She also revealed that her dad called her Sissy back then. Seriously, if this continues — Miley’s bad-girl vibe? Down the tubes.
